FAQs
Product
How long does your watercolour recipe last once dried into cakes? At least two years if not indefinitely.
How do I know what the ideal consistency is? Mix it into a creamy but thick paste. Start with the 1 to 1 ratio and if it's too dry or too much liquid you can adjust by adding more pigment or more liquid. The test is, mix a touch of the paint with water and brush it onto your watercolour paper. If it's too transparent for you, add more pigment, if it's too opaque for you, add more base. I put each colour in a separate small jar, but each is only about half full.
Does liquid dry out even with tightly seal lids? As long as they are tightly sealed in a full jar then or in an airtight aluminum tube they will not dry out. If it is not sealed properly or only filled half way they will eventually dry.
Will adding more clove oil and storing them in the fridge allow the watercolour to last longer? Yes, the fridge will help extend the life a bit more but both the clove oil and the fridge are more meant to prevent mold while they are wet. The dried cakes will not mold.
Will the watercolour cakes grow mold? If they have mold, don't use them. If they don't, they are perfect to use.
Why is the Glycerine needed? To prevent cakes from cracking
Does the glycerine need to be added while the base mixture is still warm? It can it be added later, just as long as it is still able to be stirred
How much sodium benzoate needs to be used in the watercolour recipe as the perservative (per batch)? Just a small amount - 1 tsp. or less.
How long will the watercolour paints last for once they are mixed up? Watercolours keep longer when you add a natural preservative such as sodium benzoate or a pure essential oil of clove. If kept in jars in liquid form they will stay good for 1-3 months. If you put them in tiny aluminum tubes they will last much longer. Or if you put a few drops of glycerine in, you can dry it in cakes. And then they should stay good for at least 2 years, if not indefinitely.
How do I store watercolours after following the recipe? There are several options available: - Store in a small air tight jars (will last for 2-3 weeks or longer if refrigerated) - Store in small, empty aluminum tubes (will last a little longer than small jars). Tubes are available for purchase on our website - Let them dry into cakes in half or full pans or any small, shallow container (may take a few days to fully dry). Will stay good indefinitely.
How long will the watercolour "base" mixture stay good for?It will stay good in a small glass jar for about one month. Be sure to mix it into specific paint colours before this mixture goes bad.

Winter Shipping Policy
At Natural Earth Paint Canada, we take great care to ensure your products arrive in excellent condition, no matter the season. Most items in our catalog do not contain temperature sensitive ingredients and are therefore not affected by cold temperatures. These items ship normally throughout the year.
However, certain products — including our Natural Acrylik Paints, Medium, and Fluid Acryliks — can be damaged if exposed to cold temperatures during shipping. For these select items, additional precautions are taken during colder months.
What We Do to Protect Cold-Sensitive Products
To help minimize the risk of freezing in transit, we:
Clearly label cold-sensitive products on their respective product pages
Apply Fragile and Do not freeze stickers to encourage careful handling by carriers
Monitor weather conditions along major points in the shipping route— although we’re not weather experts, and temperature drops can still happen.
In some cases, hold orders during periods of extreme cold to avoid spoilage
Please note: While we go to great lengths to package and ship your items with care during cold weather, we cannot guarantee that they won’t be exposed to freezing temperatures in transit. As such, we’re unable to offer refunds or replacements for cold-related damage.
How You Can Help Prevent Freezing
If your order includes freeze-sensitive products, we recommend the following:
Check the forecast along the shipping route before placing your order
Select Priority shipping during checkout to reduce time in transit
Place your order between Saturday and Monday to avoid weekend delays
Avoid ordering right before major holidays or non-delivery days, such as:
December 25 (Christmas Day)
December 26 (Boxing Day)
January 1 (New Year’s Day)
Ensure someone is available to receive the shipment immediately upon delivery
Consider shipping to a business address if no one is home during delivery hours
Final Note
Given the unpredictable nature of winter weather and transit conditions, we cannot issue refunds or replacements for items compromised by freezing during shipment. All cancellations or refund requests are subject to our Return and Refund policy below
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to ensure your natural art supplies arrive safely, even in the coldest months. ❄️🎨
Return and Refund Policy
We work diligently to maintain our reputation for quality and value. If for any reason you are dissatisfied with a purchase, we will gladly accept a return or exchange for products purchased as long as the item is unopened, unused, and was purchased through our website shop.naturalearthpaint.ca.
All return and exchange requests must be made within 30 days of product receipt.
Upon receipt of your qualified return we will issue a full refund of the purchase price of the item, less the cost of shipping. If your order received free shipping, the cost we incurred to ship the item(s) will be deducted from your refund. Please allow 10 days for processing. Exchanges are subject to a 20% restocking fee (before taxes).
If you are sending back products, you may want to consider using a trackable shipping service or purchasing shipping insurance, as we cannot guarantee receipt of returned items without it. Products returned without prior authorization will not accepted.
We do not accept returns or exchanges of any kind under any circumstance after 60 days. If 60 days have gone by since your purchase, then we consider your purchase final sale.
We take every precaution to protect Natural Acrylik items especially during winter shipping, but once an order is in transit, winter delivery conditions can be unpredictable and are beyond our control. As such, these items are not eligible for return or refund if affected by freezing during transit.
If you haven’t received a refund after 10 business days:
First, check with your bank or credit card company — processing times may vary.
We must receive returns within 14 days from the day the return was approved. We reserve the right to reject any returns and exchanges that do not meet the above conditions.

About
It Started With a Love of Painting
Like many artists, our founder believed toxic fumes and harsh chemicals were simply the price you paid for high-quality paint. But when she became pregnant with her first child, she began questioning what was really in the materials she loved to create with.
Determined to find a better way, she set out to create her own natural paints, proving that artists shouldn't have to choose between their health, the planet, and beautiful, professional-quality results.
Yes. Our paints, pigments and supplies have been tested by government-certified toxicologists and are also third-party tested. They are certified completely non-toxic.
None of our products are ever tested on animals. All Natural Earth Paints are vegan, with the exception of our Natural Face Paint, which contains beeswax.
All of our products are free from gluten and dairy. Our Refined Walnut Oil is the only product that contains nuts, and it is not processed in our facility.
Although our paints are non-toxic, they are not intended for consumption. Our Natural Egg Dye Kits are the exception and are FDA-approved for use with food.
We use 100% post-consumer recycled packaging, biodegradable cups and lids, home-compostable pigment pouches, and recyclable glass and aluminum bottles across our product range.
We accept qualifying returns of unopened and unused products. Please refer to our full Return & Refund Policy for complete details and eligibility.
Beautiful colours, I mixed the powdered pigments as instructed and painted on raw canvas. Using these naturally derived pigments aligns with my beliefs and my art practice.
The selection and products were well priced, they were shipped fast and were very well wrapped. The entire process was a breeze. I am happy to recommend shopping with the this great team.
These paints have great coverage, are creamy and highly pigmented, and the colour palette is so rich and earthy. It absolutely sings on canvasses and other surfaces. My favourite line of paint by far.
I am a super sensitive to chemicals person. I have had my creativity limited as a result to paints have ingredients I react to. What a joy to open up these products and have no negative reactions! I will be buying more!
